Know your consumer rights in Vietnam

At STAR Kickboxing & Fitness, your trust and safety matter. As a gym member in Vietnam, you are protected by national consumer-protection laws. These laws ensure you receive clear information, fair treatment, and safe, high-quality services. Below is a simple guide to your rights and what you can do if you ever have a concern.

Your Rights as a Gym Member

Under the Law on Protection of Consumers’ Rights 2023 (Luật Bảo vệ quyền lợi người tiêu dùng 2023 – Law No. 19/2023/QH15) and Decree 55/2024/NĐ-CP, you have the right to:

1. Clear and Accurate Information

Before signing up, you are entitled to full, truthful details about your membership, including:

  • Prices and fees

  • Contract duration

  • Cancellation or renewal terms

  • Class schedules and service availability

  • Any limits, rules, or safety requirements

2. Safe Facilities and Professional Services

Gyms must follow technical, safety, and hygiene standards, including staffing and equipment requirements under Circular 10/2018/TT-BVHTTDL for fitness facilities.

3. Fair Contracts and Transparent Terms

Membership agreements must be written clearly and may not contain unfair, misleading, or hidden conditions. You have the right to question any clause before agreeing.

4. Protection From Misleading or Unfair Practices

You are protected from false advertising, deceptive sales practices, or the gym changing key terms without your consent.

5. The Right to Complain and Request a Resolution

If something goes wrong, such as incorrect billing, service changes, unsafe conditions, or breaches of contract, you have the right to raise a complaint and receive a timely response.

If You Have a Concern or Complaint

If you ever feel your consumer rights are not being respected, the law gives you several options:

1. Contact Us First

Most issues can be resolved quickly by speaking with our team. Please reach out via email, phone, or in person. We will review your concern and work with you to find a fair solution.

2. Request Support From Consumer Authorities

If you are not satisfied, you can contact:

  • Department of Industry and Trade (Sở Công Thương)

  • Consumer Rights Protection Association (Hội Bảo vệ quyền lợi người tiêu dùng)

  • National consumer hotline 1800 6838 (free, managed by the National Competition Commission)

These agencies can advise you, assist in negotiations, and help resolve disputes.

3. Formal Resolution Options

If necessary, you can also choose:

  • Mediation

  • Arbitration (if included in your contract)

  • Filing a civil case at the People’s Court

These methods allow you to request contract cancellation, a refund, or compensation where appropriate.
